Information message about a strong earthquake near the island of Crete, Greece, May 2, 2020.

An earthquake (destructive on the SHSI-17 scale at the epicenter) with M = 6.7 occurred on May 2, 2020 at 12:51 GMT (15:51 Moscow time) off the island of Crete, Greece.

Parameters of the earthquake have been determined in the Alert Service (AS) of Information Processing Center (IPC) of Geophysical Survey of RAS in Obninsk with station data obtained from digital and analog seismic stations of Russia, countries of CIS and from abroad. Alert message on this earthquake has been delivered in 11 min after registration to the Ministry of Emergency of the Russian Federation (EMERCOM).

Preliminary processing has been done with data from 16 stations, accurate processing - with data from 68.

The red marker on the map is the epicenter of this earthquake, whose origin was in the Mediterranean Sea off the island of Crete, Greece, at a depth of 10 km, 133 km S-SE of Heraklion, Greece and 452 km S-SE of Athens, the capital of Greece.
