Information message about a strong earthquake in the Vanuatu islands on March 30, 2026

A strong earthquake (moderate at the epicenter on the SIS-17 scale) with an intensity of M=6.6 occurred on March 30, 2026, at 08:44 GMT (11:44 Moscow time) in the Vanuatu islands. SIS-17 - Earthquakes. Seismic intensity scale. State Standard 57546–2017.

Parameters of the earthquake have been determined in the Alert Service (AS) of Information Processing Center (IPC) of Geophysical Survey of RAS in Obninsk with station data obtained from digital and analog seismic stations of Russia, countries of CIS and from abroad. Alert message on this earthquake has been delivered in 16 min after registration to the Ministry of Emergency of the Russian Federation (EMERCOM).

Preliminary processing has been done with data from 22 stations, accurate processing - with data from 55.

The red marker on the map is the epicenter of the earthquake, which was located in the Pacific Ocean between the islands of Esperitu Santo and Amba, Vanuatu, at a depth of 150 km, 39 km E-NE off Luganville, 48 km W off Longana and 278 km N-NW off Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu.
