The red marker on the map is the epicenter of the earthquake, the origin of which was in the Chukotka Autonomous Region, at a depth of 10 km, 88 km W of Vankarem, 126 km E-SE of Cape Schmidt, 190 km N-NE of Egvekinot and 410 km NE of Anadyr.

According to Magadan Branch of GS RAS the earthquake was felt in the following settlements: Egvekinot with intensity of 5 MSK, Vankarem, Ryrkaipiy with intensity of 4 MSK, Ozerny, Cape Schmidt, Amguema, Uelen, Nutepelmen, Neshkan with intensity of 3 MSK.
Focal mechanism solution of the origin was calculated by GS RAS with signs of initial arrivals of P waves at 79 stations, including 24 stations which registered compression waves (plus signs), and 55 stations which registered tensile waves (minus signs). The stations are located in the epicentral interval of 3.6-88.1º and azimuth sector Az= 4-357º. Focal mechanism solution in stereographic projection on the lower hemisphere and elements of the mechanism are presented in the table. The table also contains focal mechanism solutions obtained at Lamont-Dohert Earth Observatory of Columbia University, USA (LDEO GCMT) with СМТ (Centroid moment tensor) technique and at the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), Germany. Solutions based on data from different centers are close. The earthquake occurred under the action of compression stresses of similar magnitude oriented to the west (AZ=261-265º) and tensile stresses oriented to the south (AZ=172º) in GS RAS solution and to the north (AZ=352-355º) according to LDEO GCMT and GFZ. One nodal plane NP1 striks NE (STK=37-39º), another plane NP2– strikes NW (STK=307-308º) according to GS RAS and GFZ and SE (STK=130º) according to LDEO GCMT. Both planes are dipping to the horizon rather steeply with close angles (DIP=74-88º). The type of motion along NP1 – right lateral slip, along NP2 – left lateral slip. The seismic moment of the earthquake was obtained at GS RAS from the spectra of longitudinal waves registered at the station "Talaya" (∆ 39.0º), it makes Mo=8.559*10**16 N*m, Mw=5.3. The seismic moment according to LDEO GCMT makes Mo=1.18*10**17 N*m, Mw=5.3. According to GFZ it makes Mo= 9.695*10**16 N*m, Mw=5.3
