Information notice on strong earthquakes in the south of Iran, November 14, 2021

An earthquake (very strong at the epicenter on the SHSI-17 scale) with M = 6.3 occurred on November 14, 2021 at 12 07 min Greenwich time (15 07 07 Moscow time) in southern Iran. The second shock (destructive at the epicenter on the ShSI-17 scale) with a magnitude of M = 6.4 occurred 1 minute later at 12 08 GMT (15 08 Moscow time).

Parameters of the earthquake have been determined in the Alert Service (AS) of Information Processing Center (IPC) of Geophysical Survey of RAS in Obninsk with station data obtained from digital and analog seismic stations of Russia, countries of CIS and from abroad. Alert message on this earthquake has been delivered in 12 min after registration to the Ministry of Emergency of the Russian Federation (EMERCOM).



The red markers on the map are the epicenters of earthquakes, the origins of which were located in the province of Hormozgan in southern Iran, at a depth of 10 km. The epicenter of the first earthquake was located 51 km N of Bandar Abbas, 303 km S-SW of Kerman, the origin of the second shock was located 10 km NW of the first.
