Information message on severe earthquake on Kermadec Islands, New Zealand, March 4, 2021

An earthquake (destructive at the epicenter on the SHSI-17 scale) with M = 7.8 occurred on March 4, 2021 at 19:28 GMT (22:28 Moscow time) on the Kermadec Islands, New Zealand.

Parameters of the earthquake have been determined in the Alert Service (AS) of Information Processing Center (IPC) of Geophysical Survey of RAS in Obninsk with station data obtained from digital and analog seismic stations of Russia, countries of CIS and from abroad.



Red marker on the map show the epicenter of the earthquake, whose origins was located in the Pacific Ocean SE of Raoul Island, the largest of the Kermadec Islands, New Zealand at a depth of 33 km, 85 km SE of Raoul Island, 1123 km NE of Auckland and 1497 km NE of Wellington, capital of New Zealand.
