Information message about a strong earthquake on the Russia-Mongolia border, January 11, 2021

An earthquake (at the epicenter destructive on the SHSI-17 scale) with M = 7.2 occurred on January 11, 2021 at 21:32 GMT (January 12 at 00:32 Moscow time) on the Russia-Mongolia border.

Parameters of the earthquake have been determined in the Alert Service (AS) of Information Processing Center (IPC) of Geophysical Survey of RAS in Obninsk with station data obtained from digital and analog seismic stations of Russia, countries of CIS and from abroad. Alert message on this earthquake has been delivered in 10 min after registration to the Ministry of Emergency of the Russian Federation (EMERCOM).

Preliminary processing has been done with data from 11 stations, accurate processing - with data from 70.

The red marker on the map presents the epicenter of this earthquake, it's origin was in the area of Lake Khubsugul in Mongolia at a depth of 20 km, 40 km from the border with Russia, 22 km SW of Khankh, Mongolia, 53 km SW of the village of Mondy, 140 km S-SE of the village of Orlik and 288 km W-SW of Irkutsk.
