Information message about the strong earthquake on the Kuril Islands on October 10, 2018

A strong earthquake with M = 7 occurred on October 10, 2018 at 23:16 GMT (October 11, at 02:16 Moscow time) in the Kuril Islands.

Parameters of the earthquake have been determined in the Alert Service (AS) of Information Processing Center (IPC) of Geophysical Survey of RAS in Obninsk with station data obtained from digital and analog seismic stations of Russia, countries of CIS and from abroad. Alert message on this earthquake has been delivered in 9 min after registration to the Ministry of Emergency of the Russian Federation (EMERCOM).

Preliminary processing has been done with data from 16 stations, accurate processing - with data from 60.

The red marker shows the epicenter of the earthquake, its focus was located E of the Kuril Islands, at a depth of 50 km, 129 km E-SE of Onekotan, 183 km S-SE of Severo-Kurilsk and 468 km SW of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
